Description

East Hall is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, featuring a right gable end that is close-studded, while the left side of the left wing is tile-hung. The building has a plain tile roof, with the main range having a cross-wing to the left that is flush to the front and projects to the rear. There is a rear turret that runs parallel to the main range, filling the angle between the two. The main range has two short conjoined rear wings. The main range is two storeys high on a stone plinth, while the cross-wing and turret also have two storeys and an attic on a higher plinth. The main range has boxed eaves, and its roof is hipped to the right. The wing's roof is gabled to the front and hipped to the rear, with the hip continuing along the turret, which has higher eaves. A slightly projecting brick gable end stack is located at the front gable of the wing. There are several stacks at the rear: one to the left of the main range, a ridge stack towards the centre, and another towards the right end, all featuring clustered corbelled and filleted flues on rectangular plinths. The main range has irregular fenestration with three 3-light casements, while the left side of the wing has a regular 3-bay front consisting of two tripartite sashes and a central triangular eaves dormer. Under the rear eaves of the turret, there is an 8-light ovolo-moulded mullioned window. The main range has a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight at its left end, and there is a ribbed late 16th or early 17th-century door at the rear of the turret, set in a moulded rectangular architrave with large decorative chamfer-stops. The interior has not been inspected.
