Description
The Old Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber-framed structure with a ground floor made of chequered red and grey brick and exposed framing with plaster infilling on the first floor. The building consists of four timber-framed bays, with the bay to the right of the center being slightly longer. It has two storeys and stands on a stone plinth. The principal posts and staves are exposed, and there are tension braces at each end. The roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right, with a multiple brick ridge stack located towards the left end of the right central bay. There are two gabled eaves dormers. The ground-floor windows were altered in the 20th century, and there is a blocked door beneath the stack. To the right, there is a short rear wing made of similar materials, featuring a half-hipped roof and lower eaves. A half-glazed door leads into a 20th-century lean-to extension on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
