Description

Grafton Cottage is an early 19th-century building situated on Sandgate Esplanade. It is a two-storey and basement structure, with the street frontage weatherboarded above a stuccoed base. The roof is slate, hipped, and features a modillion eaves cornice. The original three sash windows retain their glazing bars and are fitted with Venetian shutters. A trellised wooden porch with a pointed canopy sits fifteen steps up from the level ground and includes a handrail. A rectangular fanlight is above the main doorway. The left side elevation incorporates an additional wooden doorcase with a pedimented head, paterae, and reeded pilasters. A garage connects the property to Regency Cottage, and has a room built above. Grafton Cottage forms a group with Regency Cottage and numbers 1 to 10 Wellington Terrace, recognising the local interest of the latter buildings.
