Description

Martello Tower No 8 was built in 1806 as part of the coastal defenses. It is a circular tower made of brick, with walls that are 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet thick. Inside, there is a central brick pillar from which vaulted arches spring. The ground floor contains the magazine, while the upper level has quarters for the garrison, divided into two rooms, and features a gun emplacement on the roof. Surrounding the tower is a ditch with ramparts lined with ashlar, although the ditch has been filled in on the north side. The entrance door is located about 2 feet above the ground.
