Description

Martello Tower No 9 was built in 1806 as part of the coastal defenses. This circular tower is constructed of brick, with walls that are 5½ feet to 6 feet thick. Most of the cement coating has peeled off. Inside, there is a central brick pillar with vaulted arches springing from it. The ground floor contains a tile magazine, while the upper level has quarters for the garrison, divided into two rooms, along with a gun emplacement on the roof. Surrounding the tower is a ditch with ramparts lined with ashlar. The doors are located about 20 feet above the ground.
