Description
19-23 The Chain is a building that was likely originally a single timber-framed house, which was refronted in the 18th century and has undergone further changes since then. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows in total and two dormers. Nos 21 and 23 have modern shop fronts. No 19 is finished in rough cast, while No 21 has cement rendering on the first floor and sash windows on the first floor. No 23 displays imitation half-timbered planks on the first floor and an imitation Regency front below, with missing glazing bars. No 23 is adjacent to No 1 Millwall Place. Together, Nos 1 to 23 (odd) along with Nos 4 to 12 (even) Church Street St Clement and No 1 with its outbuildings at Millwall Place form a cohesive group.
