Description
No 88 on New Street is a building dating from the 17th to 18th century. The timber framing is visible in the side wall, while the street-facing facade is made of silver grey and red bricks set on a flint base. It features arches made of red rubbed bricks and has a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with three windows. The first-floor windows are 18th-century sashes, while the ground floor and side wall windows have mullions and transoms, with the side wall windows also featuring leaded top lights. Some of the bottom windows retain original iron casements with fittings. There is a large archway leading to a stone flagged courtyard from New Street.
No 88 is part of a group with Nos 84 to 88 (even) and Nos 37 to 43 (odd), White Cottage, the Malthouse, Nos 51 to 55 (odd), and No 29 Thameside. It also forms part of a second group with Nos 25 to 29 (odd) Thameside, the stone flagged courtyard behind No 88, and No 1 Wharf Lane.
