Description
Little Mongeham House is a house built in the early 19th century. It features buff coloured brick and a slate roof, standing two storeys high with a basement on a plinth. The house has a rendered cornice and paired bracket eaves that support a hipped roof. There are paired stacks at both the front and rear, connected by an arcaded bridging piece. The windows are arranged regularly, with three glazing bar sashes on the first floor, two on the ground floor, and two openings in the basement, all topped with gauged heads. The central window bay projects and includes a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, framed by a doubled pilaster surround and an entablature, with a flight of two steps leading up to it. To the left, there is a recessed wing featuring a plat band supported by pilaster arcading. The garden fronts are relatively plain. Inside, original early 19th-century fittings and the staircase remain, and the main room is divided into two sections by wooden panelling that rises from the floor. There are vaulted cellars beneath and at the rear of the house. The design and details show similarities to Ripple Court, which was built around the same time. Little Mongeham House was originally constructed as the Rectory.
