Description

The Olde Cottage and Fair Oak is a pair of cottages located on the south side of The Street in Northbourne, dating from the early 18th century, with one section dated 1735 and an extension added around 1880. The cottages are constructed of painted brick and feature a thatched roof. They are one storey high with an attic, set on a plinth, and the right-hand cottage has a plat band. The roof has three raking dormers and stacks positioned at the left end and paired at the centre right, with the ridge line stepping down towards the right.

The left cottage has two segmentally headed glazing bar sash windows with shutters, while the right cottage features one sash window and boarded doors to the left, which are topped with a flat hood and a datestone inscribed with "P." To the right, there is a trellised gable. Additionally, there is a weathered garage extension dated 1735 to the right. The Olde Cottage also includes a two-storey section at the rear, built of brown brick with a slate roof, which is dated 1880.
