Description
Clare Cottage, The Old Post Office, and The Nook are a pair of cottages located on the south side of The Forstal in Eythorne. They date from the 18th century and were altered in the late 19th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick, with some areas painted and others rendered, featuring applied timbering. They have a combination of plain tiled and slate roofs.
The buildings are two storeys high, with a brick eaves cornice on the left and a wooden eaves cornice on the right, along with a central stack. The windows are arranged irregularly, with one sash window and three glazing bar sashes on the first floor, and one sash window and two glazing bar sashes on the ground floor. The entrance on the centre right has a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed and topped by a pediment supported by pilasters. There is also a glazed door to the centre left and a glazed gabled shop front at the far left. The cottages are included for their group value. The east part of The Nook is noted as not being of special interest.
