Description
The War Memorial is located in the churchyard of St Alban's Church, at the north-west corner of the church, where St Alban's Road meets Colney Road. This memorial takes the form of a rough-hewn Celtic cross made from grey Cornish granite. It features a curved, boulder-like plinth that stands on a square, two-stage base, with the lower stage made of Portland stone, which is a later addition. The front face of the cross is adorned with a Sword of Sacrifice in relief. The plinth's front face has the inscription: ‘THE/ GLORIOUS/ DEAD/ IN GRATEFUL AND LOVING/ MEMORY OF THE MEN/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WARS/ 1914-1919 1939-1945’.
