Description

No. 5 Best Lane is a timber-framed building that was altered in the 18th century. It is two storeys high, with the first floor finished with rough cast rendering and the ground floor with cement rendering. The roof is tiled, featuring one hipped dormer and a large brick stack. Two sash windows are present on the first floor, set within moulded architraves; the window on the right side has a Gothic pointed light. A bressumer is visible. On the ground floor are one mullioned and transomed casement window and one sash window. The door is set within a moulded wooden doorcase, which has a weatherhood supported by brackets and pilasters, and a recessed door. The side elevation is largely clad with weatherboarding, and there are traces of curved braces. Nos. 3 to 12, Best Lane form a group.
