Description
Nos 22 and 23 on Best Lane are an early 18th-century pair of buildings. They are three storeys high and constructed of painted brick. The buildings feature a parapet with stone coping and a dropped stone bracket cornice, along with a rainwater head. The second floor has four casement windows, while the first floor has five sash windows, one of which is a three-light window, with some glazing bars still intact. There are two string courses, one of which is a flint band, and a plinth at the base.
The left side doorcase includes a weatherhood with brackets, a rectangular fanlight, and a later door, accessed by two stone steps. The right side doorcase features an elliptical fanlight with a wooden architrave and three stone steps. There is a central cambered passageway with a brick keystone. The side elevation has one sash window and one blank wall.
Nos 16A to 20, along with Nos 22 and 23, form a group.
