Description

No 4 Best Lane is a 15th-century timber-framed building that was refaced in the 18th century. It has three storeys, with the ground floor made of painted brick and the upper floors covered in cement render. The roof has coping. On the second floor, there are four sash windows with intact glazing bars. The first floor features two three-light bays and a bressumer. The ground floor includes two three-light sash windows and a double doorcase with moulded architraves and altered doors. The side elevation has one sash window set in a cambered arch and is faced with red brick. Inside, the building has a king-post roof, some 18th-century panelling, and a fine late 18th-century Adamesque fireplace decorated with swags and paterae. Nos 3 to 12 Best Lane form a group.
