Description

No. 42 Burgate is a late 14th-century timber-framed building that has been rendered with cement. It stands three storeys tall and features an old tiled roof with two dormers. The second floor has four 18th-century sash windows with intact glazing bars and an overhang. The first floor includes two 18th-century sash windows and one original window opening, along with a later 19th-century shopfront that has a modillion cornice above. This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 38 to 44 Burgate and Nos. 1 to 9 Butchery Lane, as well as Nos. 1 to 8A and Nos. 10 to 16 Mercery Lane.
