Description
Nos. 137 and 138 are a row of cottages located on the B3043 in Hursley, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century, with the possibility of an earlier core. They are constructed of brick with some blue headers and feature thatched roofs. The cottages are arranged in a dog-leg formation, with a wing at the rear of the central part. Each cottage is 1½ storeys high and has three bays, with the right cottage standing forward by one bay. The left cottage has a 19th-century four-panel door situated between the left and centre bays, and it features a higher ridge on the right bay that connects to the right cottage. The right cottage has a 19th-century top-glazed door with coloured glass and a slightly projecting bay on the right. All bays, except for the right bay, have two-light cast iron casements with lozenge panes, and there are smaller similar windows above in eyebrow dormers. The roofs are hipped, with stacks located between the right and centre bays of each cottage.
