Description

Red House is a house with a core dating back to the 17th century, which was enlarged in the early and mid-18th century and further modified in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick with blue headers and has an old plain tile roof. The road-facing front features a three-bay early 18th-century section with a central projecting porch. The right bay of this section and the bays to the right contain remnants of the 17th-century timber-framed building, which has been encased in 18th-century brickwork, along with a 19th-century cross-wing at the right end.

The road front is two stories high and consists of five bays. The left bay features a 1½-story 19th-century gabled brick porch with carved bargeboards and large double doors. Adjacent to this is a less projecting full-height 18th-century porch that has a moulded brick round-headed opening with a keystone, a first-floor string, and a two-light casement window. The right early 18th-century bay includes an 18th-century two-light casement window set in a rubbed brick head, a first-floor string, and a three-light Gothic casement window on the first floor. To the right, there is a planked door, a two-light casement with segmental heads, and a three-light casement with a head in a gabled dormer. The 19th-century gabled wing features three-light casement windows. The left part of the building has a higher roof with a large central stack, while there is also a stack to the right of the right 18th-century bay.
