Description

Hawstead is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with part of it reclad in the early 19th century. The building features an exposed brick-nogged frame at one end and part of the front, while the other end is tile-hung. Above a deep plinth, the upper part is rough-cast, and there is boarding to the outshot. The roof is thatched. The house has two bays and is two storeys high, with a lower wing at the rear. In the centre, there is a gabled trellis porch. The front elevation faces north-east and has two storeys with two windows, including one sash window and casements, as well as a small cast-iron lattice window. The rear features other cast-iron windows. The roof has two levels with hips, and the rear and all of the rear wing have a tile roof.
