Description
Field House is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with extensions added in the 18th and 19th centuries. The house has a timber-frame structure that has been encased in brick, with some parts tile-hung, and is covered by an old plain tile roof. The front facade is two stories and five windows wide, with a 20th-century bay window on the right end. A 19th-century timber and glass porch, set on a brick plinth, is located to the right of the centre of the older part of the house; it contains a top-glazed door. To the left of the porch there is 17th-century brickwork with a flint plinth running along the end of the building. The ground floor has two 18th-century 12-pane sash windows on each side. The first floor is tile-hung and is punctuated by five 19th-century cross-windows. A stack is located on the ridge near the left end of the building, and another at the right end. An external 17th-century stack of T-section is present, with an added 20th-century flue on the right. The 20th-century bay window has a canted bay window, a large cross-window on the first floor, and a hipped roof. Inside a room to the right of the front door, there is a large 17th-century stone fireplace with a timber mantle.
