Description

Wood End House is a Grade II listed house that originated as a cottage in the 17th century but was enlarged in the late 18th century and again in the mid-19th century. The walls are made of painted brickwork in Flemish bond, featuring rubbed flat arches, a parapet with coping, and a brick dentilled cornice. There is another section of Flemish bond with blue headers, as well as Flemish Garden Wall bond with blue headers, and some areas of tile-hanging.

The main block, dating from the late 18th century with some early 19th-century details, has a symmetrical southwest front elevation that is two storeys high, with five windows above two on the ground floor. The ground-floor windows are centrally placed beneath the two outer pairs of first-floor windows and are sashes set in reveals, with the larger ground-floor windows reaching down to floor level. The door case features a thin open pediment supported by coupled modillion brackets, with console brackets above panelled pilasters. The arched opening has a plain fanlight and a six-panelled door.

The southeast elevation includes a long wing, which contains the oldest part of the structure, extending to the northeast. This wing has tile-hanging above brickwork and sashes above casements. The southwest side, which is the end of the main front, features a French window beneath a concave metal canopy. The northwest elevation shows a gabled recess between the mid-19th-century northeast side and the end of the main block, with a stucco porch filling the gap. This porch has a pierced parapet, pilasters, and half-glazed coupled doors.
