Description
This building is a shop with a house, known as J A Grover, dating from the 17th century, with 18th century and early 19th century extensions and minor features. The front wall is plastered, while the rear wings feature some exposed timber framing and tiling above stucco. It has a tiled roof and a north front with three gables that jet out above the first floor. The first floor was previously jettied over the ground floor but has since been extended forward beneath a flat roof. The building is two storeys high and has three windows.
A continuous bressumer supports the gables, featuring mouldings and plaster coving, with four ornamental pendants at the base of the gables. The upper sash windows are set in rectangular bays beneath the jetty. On the ground floor, there is a central early 19th century sash window, a Victorian splayed bay on the east side, and a projecting 20th century shopfront on the west side, all located beneath the canopy created by the flat roof. The centre and east bay include 18th century doorways with six-panelled doors framed by architraves.
