Description
This is a house, later used as a shop with offices above, dating from the 15th or 16th century. It has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The house is timber-framed with a pebbledash and colourwashed finish, along with colourwashed brick and a stuccoed brick underbuilding. The first floor has a continuous jetty. The roof is covered in old tiles.
The front of the building has two nearly flush-set sash windows on the first floor, with glazing bars and architrave surrounds. The ground floor features twin recessed bay windows from the mid-20th century with glazing bars, and a central half-glazed door. The north gable has a boarded ground floor and a pebbledash and colourwashed first floor. A two-storey gabled rear outshoot is stuccoed over a timber frame and has an old tiled roof.
Inside, the ground floor front room (now a shop) has an 18th-century timber ceiling cornice with a dentil frieze. The roof retains heavy section paired halved and pegged hardwood rafters, with notches for former collars, indicating an original crown post construction. This has been altered with the addition of 19th or later side purlins and struts to the tie-beam.
