Description
The building at 31 and 33 Bell Street dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is a two-storey timber-framed building, now plastered, with a steep hipped roof covered in old red tiles. The front has three windows. The windows are flush box sashes with moulded architraves; the two western windows have 6/6 panes, and the eastern window has 8/8 panes. A large shopfront from the late 19th century is on the west side, and a smaller, similar shopfront is on the east side, next to which is a six-panel door with an architrave and a moulded flat hood supported on shaped scroll brackets. The east end is weatherboarded on the ground floor and has decorative pargeting on the first floor. A single-storey rear wing extends from the east side, featuring an old tile roof and a large blind gabled dormer rising from the wall plate. A two-storey red-brick rear extension is located on the west side.
