Description
The Old Vicarage is a house that likely originated in the 17th century, featuring timber framing and later recladding in the 18th century. A larger 18th-century extension was added to the rear, and the original block was raised in the early 19th century, with minor rear extensions and renovations in the 20th century. The original block displays brickwork in Flemish bond, while the south gable features a mixed English bond. Other walls exhibit Flemish Garden Wall bond with some rubbed flat and cambered arches. The roof is tiled, with a double pile design, and the older lower part is hipped.
The front elevation, now facing south, showcases the large gable end from the second phase and the hipped end of the first phase. The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has two windows on each floor. The ground floor features a shallow bay with triple sash windows, brick cheeks, and a tiled roof. A central doorcase includes a moulded cornice, carved brackets, an architrave, and a six-panelled door with two glazed panels at the top. The east elevation has two storeys with two windows, including a half-octagonal north end, casements, and a French door. The irregular rear elevation contains a gabled staircase wing, although it has been altered internally.
Inside, the hall features 18th-century doors in architraves, and there is a 17th-century beam in the oldest part of the house. The dividing wall between the first and second phases may be timber framed.
