Description
SU 6208 SOUTHWICK AND WIDLEY OLD FAREHAM ROAD 17/7 The Old Vicarage II House. Probable C17 timber-framed house, with C18 recladding, with larger C18 rear extension, and raising of the original block in the early C19, with minor rear extensions, and C20 renovation. The old block has brickwork on Flemish bond, the south gable of a mixed English bond: other walls of Flemish Garden Wall bond with some rubbed flat and cambered arches. Tile roof, of double pile, the lower older part hipped. The front elevation is now south, showing the large gable end of the 2nd phase and the hipped end (east side) of the first; two storeys and attic. Two storeys 2.0 windows. Sashes, with ground-floor shallow bay having triple sashes, brick cheeks and tile roof. Central doorcase with moulded cornice, carved brackets, architrave and 6-panelled (2 top glazed) door. The east elevation has two storeys two windows, with a half-octagonal north end: casements and a French door. The irregular rear elevation has a gabled staircase wing, but is altered within. Inside, the hall has C18 doors in architraves: there is a C17 beam in the oldest part, and the dividing wall between the 1st and 2nd phases is possibly a timber frame.
