Description

Bighton Manor House is a house dating from around 1675, which was remodeled around 1950. It is constructed of brick and features an old plain tiled roof. The house has five bays and is a late 17th century structure, with the entire rear rebuilt in 1950, retaining only the front facade and the rooms behind it, while the gables and roof were sympathetically reconstructed.

The front of the house is two stories high with an attic, set on a projecting plinth, and has a prominent central bay. The corners and the projecting bay are accentuated with raised brick quoins. The central bay features a 19th century half-glazed door within a wide stone surround topped by a broken pediment. Above this, there are string courses at both the first floor and eaves level. The first floor has a round-headed sash window set in a square-headed stone surround, with the door and window flanked by small vertically set bulls-eye windows in stone surrounds.

The central bay is topped with a Dutch gable that has a small bulls-eye window above a square stone panel displaying an unknown coat of arms. On either side of the central bay, there are two 16-pane sash windows on each floor, framed by raised brick surrounds with gauged brick heads. The first floor features a string course and moulded, dentilled wooden eaves. The roof has a steep pitch and is complemented by large external gable end stacks.
