Description
The Old House is a cottage built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings and Bath stone window surrounds, featuring some tile hanging and an old plain tile roof. The building is two stories high and has four bays, with a fifth brick bay added to the left end.
At the center bay, there is a projecting two-story porch that has pointed vertical panels of flint on the sides. This porch features double doors that are two-thirds glazed with Gothick glazing bars. The first floor of the porch has a tile-hung gable with two-light Gothick casements. On either side of the porch, the bays contain three-light Gothick casements on each floor.
The right end bay includes an early 20th-century single-story canted bay with a balcony above, which also has Gothick glazed casements. The left bay is a later 20th-century addition, featuring a Gothick glazed pointed door and a sash window above. Above the second bay from the left, there is a gabled dormer with a two-light Gothick casement. The roof is adorned with pointed ridge tiles, a large brick stack over the second bay from the right, and a sailing-boat wrought iron weathervane located at the right end of the ridge.
