Description

The Old Rectory is a private house that was originally a rectory, with significant remodelling around 1734 and further alterations in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with colourwashed extensions and weatherboarding on brick plinths, topped by an old plain tiled roof. It is a double pile, five-bay house with a church hall added to the right in 1910, and an earlier service wing at the center of the rear.

The front elevation features two storeys and an attic, with five bays. The central front door is topped and middle glazed, set within a stone lugged architrave and has a segmental moulded hood above at the level of the first-floor string course. On either side of the door are two 12-pane sash windows in flush frames, each with rubbed brick arches. The first-floor string course is made of moulded brick, and the first floor has five 12-pane flush frame sashes. Above this is a large moulded stone eaves cornice. The roof is half-hipped and includes two small hipped roof dormers with two-light casements. There are symmetrical large gable stacks on the exterior.

To the right, the single-storey, two-bay wing, originally the church hall, is weatherboarded and features a large Venetian-style French window. Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase with delicate turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and cut spandrels, which has been sympathetically extended in the 20th century to reach the second-floor contemporary panelled central room and the massive back door in the kitchen.
