Description
Nos 1 and 2 on St Swithun Street are a pair of buildings dating from 1833, featuring a refronting from the 18th century over older structures from the 16th and 17th centuries, which can be seen at the back on College Street. The buildings stand three storeys tall, constructed of colourwashed brick with an old tile roof. They have five windows, one of which is blocked. Centrally located are two doors with contemporary steps, plain surrounds, and a moulded cornice. The doors are six-panel with two glazed panels. No 1 features 19th-century sash windows, while No 2 has sash windows with glazing bars. Additionally, No 1 includes a Venetian window with an interlaced head on the first floor at the rear. There is a band at the first floor level, and the rear is partially tile hung. The buildings have a parapet and form a group with Nos 1 to 3, which includes the Kingsgate.
