Description

This is a house, now divided into two cottages, dating back to the 16th century and altered in the 18th century. It is timber-framed with plaster infill and has an old plain tile roof. The original construction was a jettied three-bay timber frame, two stories high. An original three-centred arch doorway is located at the inner end of the right bay, with a planked door secured by strap hinges. The jetty of the rest of this bay has been filled in, and an early 19th-century three-light cast iron casement window has been inserted. The central bay features a 17th-century three-light leaded oriel window, supported by a single bracket, with a jetty at a slightly higher level. The left bay has a 19th-century shop front, positioned under a jetty featuring a four-light casement window with shuttering and a door beside; this bay now constitutes No. 97. The jetties are supported by plain brackets. On the first floor, there are one, two, or three-light cast iron casements with lozenge panes. The roof slopes down to a lower ridge on the left bay. A ridge stack is located to the left of the door. Medieval ridge tiles remain.
