Description

This is a pair of cottages, Ash Tree Cottage and Becky's, dating from the early 19th century, with extensions added around 1900. The cottages have brick walls and a thatched roof. The central section is older, extended at each end circa 1900. They are two storeys with an attic, and have six windows above five. The roof is half-hipped, with a catslide at the rear, four eyebrow dormers and two dormers with gables. The walls are of Flemish bond brickwork, featuring blue bricks as headers, with brick dentil eaves to the central part. The sides are built of red brick, with a band of exposed framing and plaster infill above; this detailing is also repeated in the gables, supported by brackets above the brick walls. The windows are casements, with two, three, or five panes, some featuring leaded lights of many tiny panes. A rectangular bay window is located at each end. A simple doorway with a boarded door is on the east side (Becky's), and an entrance is in the west end to Ash Tree Cottage.
