Description

Ivy Cottage and Juniper Cottage are two houses built in 1846, forming an L-shaped block at the corner of Station Road and Bridge Street. Ivy Cottage (No 14) features coarse flint walls with yellow brick dressings, including quoins and bands at the cill and window-head levels, with dog-tooth ornament in the gable. It has rubbed flat arches within hoodmoulds, chamfered reveals, and buttresses at the foot of the lesser gable, along with a red brick plinth. The roof is tiled, adorned with decorative bargeboards on the gables and Tudor stacks. This two-storey house has a south front with one and one windows, a gable on the west side, and a smaller gable above the east side window. It also has casements and a splayed ground-floor bay on the west side, as well as a Gothic gabled porch in a matching style. Juniper Cottage (No 15) has red brick walls in Flemish bond with blue heads, slightly cambered openings within hoodmoulds, chamfered reveals, and stone cills. Its lower-pitched hipped slate roof contrasts with Ivy Cottage. The east front of Juniper Cottage is symmetrical, with two storeys and two windows featuring casements. There is a half-glazed door beneath a canopy on brackets and a central diamond plaque inscribed with "W G 1846."
