Description
Little Thatches is a cottage dating from the 15th century, featuring a cruck hall, with a crosswing added in the 16th century and further additions from the 17th and 20th centuries. The building has a timber frame with colourwashed brick infill and a thatched roof. It consists of a two-bay hall with a crosswing on the right that does not project, standing two storeys tall. There is a 20th-century outshot bay beyond the crosswing, and to the left are two 1.5-storey bays from the 20th century. The left bay is open on the ground floor and includes a well, a two-light casement window, and a door that opens into the right end of the hall bays. In these bays, there is a two-light leaded casement window and an 18th-century three-light casement window with a three-light inverted dormer above. To the right, there is a 19th-century outshot weatherboarded porch with a door on the left side. The end of the crosswing features a chamber-headed two-light leaded casement window with a two-light casement above it. The outshot at the end bay has a six-light leaded casement window. The roof is hipped, with a ridge piece and a lower ridge for the 15th-century part, and there are stacks at each end of the roof and one at the front of the roof in the right bay. Inside, the crucks are visible.
