Description

Little Somborne House is a small country house dating from the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century addition on one end and a late 19th-century addition on the other. The building is constructed of brick, which was once colourwashed, and features a slate roof. The central mid-18th century section has five bays and is two stories high, with a flat canted full-height bay on the right. The left side has a high-roofed, two-story, three-bay early 19th-century addition, while the right side features a two-story and attic, two-bay addition.

The central part has five 18-pane sash windows and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. On the left side, the ground floor has three 15-pane sash windows set in recessed arched panels, with three 9-pane sashes above. The right side has pairs of sash windows on both floors in each bay. There is a wide 4-light hipped dormer above the left bay, and the right bay has a lower roof with eaves above the windows. The central section has a hipped roof to the right with a lead roof over the bay, and there are stacks on the hip and at the front of the ridge to the left. The left side features wide eaves with a roof hipped to the left and a stack behind the ridge, while the right side has a hipped roof with several parts and three stacks. The interior is notable for its fine 18th-century staircase and rooms in the older part of the house.
