Description
No. 5 Market Place is a late 18th-century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed of brick. It features a hipped modern tile roof. The upper floors have two sash windows, each four panes wide, with painted stucco voussoirs and intact glazing bars. The ground floor also has similar windows, which were previously 19th-century shop windows to the east, and a central six-panel moulded door. This door is set in reveals behind a doorcase adorned with Doric pilasters and a small modern entablature. The return front facing Abbey Water has three window bays, with the southernmost bay being a modern extension designed to match the original structure. Previously, there was a six-panel door with a doorcase at the right-hand corner. All the listed buildings in Corn Market and Market Place are part of a group.
