Description

The Abbey, built in 1559, is a three-storey brick building from the 18th century, featuring all-header bricks. It has a moulded eaves cornice and a slate roof. The central bay projects forward and is topped with a pediment. There are three windows on the upper floors; the central first-floor window has a semi-circular stuccoed head with a keystone, while the other two are sash windows set in reveals with rubbed brick voussoirs and no glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two Venetian windows flanking a central six-panel door, which is framed by an arched doorcase supported by fluted Doric pilasters. This is topped with a moulded dentilled entablature and a pediment that features carved scrollwork in the tympanum. The building retains its original staircase inside.
