Description

Two houses, 8 and 10 Abbey Water, were built in the late 18th century. They are two storeys high, constructed of brick with a moulded eaves cornice and a slate roof. Each house has one four-pane sash window. These windows are set in shallow reveals and have painted stucco voussoirs on the east side and rubbed brick voussoirs on the west. The lower parts of both windows in number 10 have lost their glazing bars. On the outer corner of each house is a six-panel door. Each door is surrounded by panelled reveals and has a rectangular fanlight with a rectangular and diamond glazing pattern. The doorcase features reeded pilasters and a moulded hood supported by flat reeded brackets, and incorporates a frieze with a central raised diamond panel. Numbers 8 to 12 (even) and 18 to 24 (even) Abbey Water form a group with the Congregational Church.
