Description
Tallymans is a house that dates from the 16th century, with elements from the 17th century and early 19th century, and has had improvements in the 20th century. It features a late medieval timber frame, likely a two-bay hall with a two-storeyed third bay at the east end, and a lower rear extension at the west end that has been altered. The roof is thatched, hipped, and half-hipped, with lower tiled roofing on each side of two dormers. One dormer has a hipped tile roof, while the other, which has a lower cill in the center of the front, features a steeply-gabled roof with a plastered front. The exposed frame has painted brick infill, with other walling also made of painted brick. The east end has a double-jettied upper wall, which includes 20th-century weatherboarding. The windows are casements, and there is a boarded door. The rear elevation has a recessed center with lower thatched eaves, interrupted by a 20th-century two-storeyed projection that has a flat roof and boarded walls. Inside, there is a massive chimney breast with a timber bressumer inscribed with "IC 1642."
