Description

Barn Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century and the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, render, and thatch. The north front, which faces the road, is two storeys high with three windows. The roof is hipped at the east end, half-hipped at the west end, with a catslide at the rear. It incorporates eyebrow dormers and a rear outshot covered with slate. The walls are of painted brickwork in a header bond, with the east side rendered. The windows are casements, some with old leaded lights. A 20th-century porch with a hipped, shingled roof has been added to the front. The east end of the house features exposed framing and an outshot with a slate roof. A former small, rectangular outbuilding at the rear is now incorporated into the house; it has a thatched roof and cob walls resting on a flint base.
