Description
Michaelmas House is a house built as the Vicarage in 1860, likely designed by architect William White, who also designed the adjoining church. The building is constructed of brick and tile and features a design in the High Victorian style, characterized by a mix of asymmetrical elements. The front (east) elevation has two storeys, with a tapered attached chimney stack on the south side and a tall gabled projection on the north side, which includes one window above triple lights. The doorway is centrally located between another upper window and coupled windows on the ground floor to the north. The walls are made of English bond brickwork, with flush blue brick bands at the top and middle, and patterns of headers between. The arches are cambered and feature blue and red voussoirs, with tiled cills. The windows are casements. The doorway is flanked by narrow side windows and features a half-glazed door beneath a wide tiled canopy supported by brackets. The other elevations maintain a similar balance of mixed elements, including large windows, such as a two-storeyed splayed bay on the south elevation. The gables are hung with tiles.
