Description
Nos 72 and 74, known as Alan Rouse and The Old Calcutta, are two shops that are part of a terrace, with the rest of the terrace having been refronted. They date from the early 19th century and feature 20th-century shop fronts. The building is constructed of brick and has an old plain tile roof. It stands three stories high, with each shop occupying one wide bay and extending two bays deep, with a wing at the rear. The front has two shop fronts, each with a door next to the center and a shop window outside, both situated under a fascia. Above the shop fronts, there are 16-pane sash windows set under segmental gauged arches. The building has a raised eaves band, and the roof is hipped to the left, continuing to the right with a large ridge stack above the party wall that separates it from the rest of the terrace.
