Description
Holmwood is a house dating from the early 18th century, with some early 19th-century details. It is constructed of brick and has a slate roof. The symmetrical front, facing south, features two storeys and a layout of one window, one window, and one window. The red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond with rubbed flat arches and a slightly projecting central section. The hipped slate roof has spaced coupled eaves brackets. The windows are sashes set in exposed frames, with a triple light window in the centre. The doorway is topped by a large canopy supported on brackets, featuring a reeded architrave and a six-panelled door, flanked by later small windows.
To the north, there is an extension from the early 19th century. A brick wall surrounds the forecourt, ending in piers topped with stone ball finials. The rear elevation, which also dates from the early 18th century with early 19th-century details, has two storeys and an attic, with a window arrangement of three above and two below. The hipped slate roof features a modillion cornice and includes one hipped dormer with a casement window. The rear windows are primarily sashes in exposed frames, with one casement, and the central ground floor has a reeded framework, two sashes, and a French window, all beneath a slate canopy. The walling at the rear is rendered, with a plinth.
