Description

Ivy House is a late 18th-century house with additions from the mid-19th century, located on the west side of King Street, Emsworth. The building possesses group value. The front elevation, facing north-east, is symmetrical and features two storeys and five windows. It is constructed of blue brick walls with red flush dressings, and has brick dentil eaves, quoins, cambered brick arches, a projecting first-floor band, and a high plinth. The windows are Victorian sashes in exposed frames. The front doorway is distinguished by a cornice supported on carved brackets, a plain frieze, an eaved architrave, panelled reveals, and a seven-panelled door with a top glazed panel. A three-storeyed rear extension was added in the mid-19th century and is constructed of rendered walls with a tile roof. The interior includes fireplaces, doorcases with panelled doors, dado panelling in the hall, and a panelled rear hall containing a dog-leg staircase.
