Description
Taplin's Farmhouse is an early 18th century building with a later 18th century extension. It is an L-shaped house that has two storeys and an attic. The main block features three windows on the north elevation, while the northward extension from the west end has three windows in one block, and there is one window on the north gable. The house has a high red tile roof with hips and half hips, which reduces to a low eaves on the west end above a modern single-storey extension. There is a roof light on the north side and two dormers on the south side. The upper walls of the main structure are tile-hung, while the lower part is made of red brickwork in Flemish bond with blue headers and a plinth. The north wing features blue headers on the gable, red quoins, and a central vertical band that surrounds the upper and lower windows. The windows are modern casements, although the walls show signs of altered fenestration, and there are period sash windows in the north gable of the wing. A later glazed and gabled porch with a tiled roof is also present.
