Description
Appleshaw House is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of brick and tile and features a symmetrical wide front on the west side with two storeys and five windows. The hipped roof has brick dentil eaves. The red brick is laid in Flemish bond with rubbed flat arches, stone cills, and a plinth. The windows are sashes set in reveals. There is a semi-circular open porch with two columns and two and a half columns, designed in a plain style with a modillion cornice. This porch encloses a half-elliptical arch above a doorframe that includes side windows, a radiating fanlight decoration, a thin panelled doorframe, and a six-panelled door.
The south elevation mirrors this style and is symmetrical with three windows. The east elevation has projecting wings, each with one window, while the centre, added in the early 19th century, fills the recess. The walls are of Flemish bond, with cambered openings; the outer windows are three-light sashes, and the centre features two upper sashes above two filled openings, along with a central door that has a fanlight and a panelled door, complemented by lead rainwater pipes. The 20th-century wing on the north end is two storeys high, closely following the style of the main building and set back from the main elevations. Inside, there is a staircase in the entrance hall.
