Description
The Walnut Tree Inn is a public house with late-medieval origins as a hostelry, featuring some 17th-century framing but mainly constructed in the early 19th century. The building consists of several parts, including a long range at the rear that is partially concealed by a short cross wing at the front. On the north side, there is an added block that projects forward. The inn is primarily two storeys high, with the south side of the front being one storey and an attic. The north side block is symmetrical, with two storeys and two windows. The roofing includes hipped and half-hipped styles with varying heights and forms, and there are brick dentil eaves on the north side. The building features outshots and dormers with low-pitched slate roofs. The walls are made of painted brickwork, with some areas of flint and flint bands, and cambered ground-floor openings. There are also sections of exposed framework in the gables and upper walls of the rear range. The windows are casements, including one splayed bay on the south side, and the doorways are plain.
