Description

This is a late 18th-century, two-story mansion with a semi-basement and a partial attic. It is nearly square in shape and has a near-symmetrical design. The east-facing elevation has a five-window front, with a projecting half-octagon in the center, a high parapet with coping stones, a molded and dentil cornice, slightly cambered window openings, stone sills, and a plinth. The slate hipped roof features two plain stacks, and to the rear, square attic blocks with pyramid roofs are visible on either side. All windows are sash windows set in reveals. The west front features a 1-3-1 window arrangement and a smaller projecting half-octagon center. It has a lower parapet concealing a flat roof and lacks a basement. A ground-floor window and entrance are located next to the corner on the south side of the west front. The entrance doorway has a segmental pediment supported by half-columns. The columns are of an unusual order, with inverted bell caps and low-relief floral decoration. A flight of five steps with curving balustrades leads to a paved area in front of the door. The south elevation has three windows and a taller, nearly central square attic that separates the lower parapet of the west side from the higher one on the east. A French door on the second floor opens onto a curved balcony supported by two large brackets and featuring a delicate, bow-shaped wrought iron rail. The north front has windows at irregular heights on the west side, along with a large chimney breast that narrows at the top to join the attic block. The building’s walls are constructed of white-painted brickwork in a stretcher bond pattern. The interior includes an Adam fireplace, panelling, and folding shutters.
