Description

Nook Cottages is a terrace of four cottages dating from the earlier to mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick with grey brick headers, and feature a band at the first floor level, a moulded eaves cornice, and a wide, hipped slate roof. They have very large chimney stacks. The cottages are arranged in a symmetrical facade of 1, 1, 2, 1 and 1 windows, with the flanking groups of two cottages recessed under gables. The central group of four cottages are diagonally placed on a plinth. The ground-floor windows have cambered head linings and lozenged glazing, while the first-floor windows have keystones. The front doors are ribbed, protected by flat hoods on brackets. A single-storey end outshut, with one window and an end pier, is present to one side. Nook Cottages (numbered 1 to 4) form a group with Blacksmiths House and The Old Smithy at The Forge and with Wellside Cottages, which are buildings of local interest.
