Description
Great Abshot House is a circa 1800 building, originally located on Hook Road and now situated on Little Abshot Road. The north facade is painted white, while the south facade is rendered white. The house has a hipped slate roof and extends over three storeys with five windows across the north facade, each a sash window with glazing bars. A semi-circular porch with a round arched doorway is centrally positioned on the north facade, leading to a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight above.
A two-storey addition is located to the west. It has a hipped roof and four windows, with the outer three forming a canted bay, also with sash windows and glazing bars. The south facade of the main building features a curved central bay that extends the full height of the building.
Inside, a fireplace with a dentil cornice and plain pilasters remains. A staircase has two straight balusters on each step, carved brackets to the treads, a moulded string, and a ramped and scrolled handrail. Modern brick extensions have been added to the west. Great Abshot House is part of a group with its stables, the barn at Great Abshot Farm, and Little Abshot Farmhouse.
