Description
Portland Chambers Trustee Savings Bank is a building located at 1 West Street in Fareham, erected in 1834 as the International Hall. It is faced with Roman cement and features pilasters, with the ground floor portions being rusticated. The building has a cornice and a parapet with a central panel, standing two storeys tall and containing eight windows. The ground floor acts as a podium, slightly projecting, with plain pilasters on either side of the windows and a round-arched, rusticated doorway in the center. Above this, the windows are flanked by fluted engaged Ionic columns. The ground floor has sash windows, while the upper floor features casements made in four sections, with glazing bars intact throughout. The United Reformed Church and No 66 form a group with this building.
