Description

The Fareham Railway Viaduct, built around 1848, is a red brick structure featuring a string course and a coped parapet. The eastern section of the viaduct has four arches, including a skewed arch that crosses Quay Street, flanked by brick pilasters. The western section consists of seven arches, with segmental arches and impost bands. The Chequers Inn, which is a building of local interest, is part of a group with the Railway Viaduct and Corrall's Office Building on Upper Quay. The viaduct is significant for its contribution to the view of the Lower Quay Buildings when approached from the town center.
